Explore the wonderfully diverse Twill family and learn to design your own twill structures on 4, 8 or more shafts. Stretch and break the ‘rules’ of twill as we play with advancing, undulating, reverse, return, broken and mirrored twills, combination twills, warp, weft and double faced twills, plaited twills, S and Z, twills on opposites and twills in blocks. Round-robin warps will allow a wide selection of samples to be played with.
This ideas-based workshop is a mix of theory and practice, so we’ll work back and forth between the looms and graph paper (or laptop/tablet). While we are likely to discover more ideas than can be put into practice while we are together, the design theory we explore may influence our weaving for years to come!
