Braided Rag Rugs - Castlemaine

  • Castlemaine Uniting Church Hall 12 Lyttleton Street Castlemaine, VIC, 3450 Australia (map)
Ilka White -16

A great way to recycle old clothes and fabric!

Learn to make fantastic rag rugs using an off-loom, spiral-woven braiding technique. Ilka shares an inspiring range of colour and design possibilities in this one-day part workshop.

This braiding technique weaves in as we go so there is no stitching up required afterward. Beautiful and unique floor coverings are possible using contrasting colours, or you can blend patterned rags for a ‘carpet of flowers’.

Bring your own material to recycle and find out what riches can come from rags…

Morning – Introduction and braiding basics
Afternoon – Further design possibilities, tricky bits and rug finishing

Cost : $125 .

Thanks Ilka. My mind is buzzing with all the possibilities!

Thank you Ilka, you are a very good teacher, very patient and very good at explaining the process... the slides were wonderful in showing just some of the different effects possible. Wow lots of exploring to do.

Ilka was a great teacher. The other participants were so friendly and relaxed too. We all had a great time. I went home feeling inspired, rejuvenated and I hope slightly cleverer!

Ilka is a wonderful teacher - so welcoming, knowledgable, encouraging & patient. I’ve completed a few workshops with Ilka & really value the skills she’s imparted in helping me turn my fabric scraps & old clothes into items that are both beautiful & functional. Thanks Ceres & Ilka!

I really enjoyed the braided rag rug workshop with Ilka White. Ilka is a great teacher. I particularly liked her ways of illustrating the tricky bits with a perfect example, story or metaphor. The rugs are highly addictive and use up all those old sheets that really should depart the closet.

I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. It was fun to learn a new skill, and especially to learn a new craft that doesn’t require buying more craft equipment. A very calming pastime.
