The Handweavers and Spinners Guild (Carlton North) offers the 4 shaft Certificate of Weaving course as 12 x Sunday classes, (once a month for a year).
The 4 shaft course runs from August, 2019 – August 2020. The 8 shaft program is likely to be offered the following year, dependent on student numbers.
The course offers excellent tuition in 4 Shaft Weaving covering traditional structures and contemporary applications. A combination of thorough weave theory, practical design skills and experimental approaches is provided. Participants gain experience combining yarns, altering setts, appropriately finishing fabrics and applying Colour Theory to Woven Cloth Design. Students complete the course with a comprehensive folio of samples illustrating their competence in weaving over a dozen structures, plus variations.
Dates: 12 x Monthly Sundays, 9.30am – 4.30pm
2019 August 4, September 15, October 6, November 3, December 1.
2020: February 2, March 1, April 5, May 3, June 28, July 26, August 30.
Venue: Guild Rooms, 655 Nicholson Street, North Carlton.
Cost: Includes materials fee and loom hire.
General $1900 / Members $1800 (Enquire at the guild to become a member)
Payable by deposit ($700 general / $600 members) via booking page below to secure your place and then 8 monthly instalments of $150.00 commencing in August 2019 through the Hand Weavers & Spinners Guild office.
Appropriate for: Those who have completed an Introduction to weaving course, or have some 4 shaft weaving experience. The ability to wind a warp, dress a loom and weave tabby and basic twills is required before commencing the certificate.
