Sturt Summer School: Mon 2 – Sat 7 January, 2017
Join me for five whole days exploring Hand-woven Twill design and construction in Mittagong, Southern Highlands of NSW.
For intermediate to advanced weavers.
Explore the wonderfully diverse Twill family and learn to design your own twill structures on 4, 8 or more shafts. Stretch and break the ‘rules’ of twill as we play with advancing, undulating, reverse, return, broken and mirrored twills, combination twills, warp, weft and double faced twills, plaited twills, twills in blocks, S and Z and twills on opposites. Push the boundaries of twill and watch it merge into other structures.
This ideas-based workshop is a mix of theory and practice, so we’ll work back and forth between the looms and graph paper (or laptop/tablet). Round-robin warps on both floor and table looms will allow a wide selection of samples to be played with.
While we are likely to discover more ideas than can be put into practice while we are together, the design theory we explore may influence our weaving for years to come!
